Journey On for Graduates - with Benjamin Rivers, PhD


This is a Continuing Education (CE) workshop, open only for graduates of Dawar’s 400 hour+ psychodrama training programs. Over 5 days, we will reconnect through dance, movement, voice, psychodrama, drama therapy, personal story and playback theatre.

This is a chance for graduates to continue their own personal healing journeys, while also exploring the intersection of various action-based modalities.

The language of delivery will be English with Arabic translation.

Eligibility
To join this workshop, it is necessary to have completed a 400 hour+ psychodrama training program with Dr. Ben Rivers.

Lottery System
As places are limited, a lottery system will be used for choosing 16 participants from those who have applied.

Attendance Policy
For the benefit of group process, punctuality and full attendance is required. We therefore ask you to apply only if you can commit to arriving on time and attending all sessions of the workshop. Child care arrangements, work related meetings, medical appointments, etc. must be organized outside of workshop times. Phone use is not permitted during training times. If you are unable to commit to these conditions then you are advised to defer registration at this time.

Application Process

  • Step 1: Applicants must complete the following online application form

  • Step 2: Selections will be announced on, or before September 1st.

  • Step 3: Selected applicants can finalize their registration by paying the program fee. If we do not receive your payment on, or before September 3rd, your place will be given to someone else.

Cancellation Policy

  • 10 days before the beginning of the program: full refund.

  • 72 hours before the beginning of the program: 50% refund.

  • 24 hours before the beginning of the program: no refund.

Facilitator
Ben Rivers, PhD, RDT/BCT is a psychotherapist, social worker and applied theatre practitioner with over 20 years of experience in the fields of mental health and community service. He has taught and practiced in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America, working extensively with refugees and other communities impacted by political violence and collective trauma. Ben is the Founder of Dawar Arts and Dawar Kitchen (Cairo, Egypt) and Co-Director of the Arab School of Playback Theatre (Adonis, Lebanon). He holds a PhD from the University of New England, Australia. His thesis explored the use of Playback Theatre for cultural activism and
collective trauma response in Occupied Palestine. Ben has published book chapters and academic articles in professional journals and has presented at conferences and universities around the world. Ben is a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) and Board Certified Trainer (BCT) with the North American Drama Therapy Association. He is an Accredited Playback Theatre Trainer through the Centre for Playback Theatre, New York. Ben was born in Scotland and is a citizen of the UK and Australia. He lives, works and travels between continents.
